I Love Ps

I don’t mean P-E-A-S.

I mean Ps, such as pickles, potatoes, pistachios and peaches.

I love pairs of pajamas and plush, puffy slippers,

Polka dot patterns and paisleys and plaids.

I love patent leather pumps, toe-less, back-less, high heels or flats.

I love the pond and pines in the park where I promenade.

I love pumpkin pies, pecan pies and pepperoni pizza pies;

Peanut butter (not plain, but packed with peanuts) plastered on pumpernickel toast.

I love purses with pockets,

Pinwheels and paddle boats and pacifiers for babies.

I love pronouncements of love, professions of faith, pulsating promises.

I passionately love paper pages–not eBooks on tablets, but paper from printing presses I can personally feel and smell and caress with my fingers.

I love the sight of pastures and prairies and the pointy peaks of mountains.

Ponderous polar bears, ponies, and Poohs,

proud peacocks with plumes.

I love pronouncing words like Piccadilly and persnickety,

Hearing the plunk of pennies plopping in piggy banks.

I love peace, peace-keeping and peacemakers.

I love the perfume of percolating coffee permeating the air,

Pineapple, pancakes, and pina coladas (plain virgin that is).

I love parties and picnics, pig pickins and parades,

The perplexity of pyramids,

Patterned paper plates,

Pretty pearls and parasols and the color periwinkle.

I love pussy willows,

pansies and phloxes, poppies and poppy seeds;

Piano pieces–peaceful or perky.

I’m passionate about the pursuit of purpose,

Perseverance, persistence and pushing past problems.

I love children’s playgrounds and playhouses and pretending.

I love puzzles and poems and the practicality of permanent press.

I love the words providence, prudence and parlor.

I love people and paper and pillows.

How about you? Do you love Ps? Or Bs, Ls or Ts? Pick a letter and let your mind wander through the things you love that begin with that letter. I’m sure that what happened to me will happen to you — suddenly you’ll find gratitude swelling your heart. And, who knows, maybe you’ll discover a new way of giving thanks around the table this Thanksgiving.

I’d love to hear from you. Tell me your letter and six (or sixteen things) you love.

I like Bs! Not bees that buzz. But Bs:

Places to go: the beach, boardwalk, and our boat.
Things to eat: bananas, blueberries, barbeque, burgers, and baloney
Ways to move: ballet, bike riding and brisk walks
End of the day resting: books, bathtub, and blankets in bed
Flying items: balloons, birds, and butterflies
Necessary things: brillo pads and bifocals
Sweet things: babies, brides, and baptism testimonies
    Bright things: bead and bracelets
    Expressive things: bloopers and blogging
People to hug: my brother, beloved husband, beautiful daughters, and bouncy grandson

I thank God for all these things,
and for you Barbara Higby, for your encouragement to be brave, bold, brilliant, better.
