The Finished Product

The stale wallpaper came down, then the plaster walls and ceiling. All I saw were studs… and dust… and the revelation that the old wiring was unsafe and the pipes were corroded from years of undetected leaks. Kinda like me.

Wisdom and maturity come with age, but so does the need for repair work. For a while I can ignore the signs, repaint the walls and hang new pictures, but the time comes when I need a renovation. I need to get behind the walls and face the mess. The only way I can get through the dirt and destruction of my kitchen and my life is to focus on the finished project, which promises to be cleaner, fresher, safer and more useful.

I didn’t select the piping, wiring or sheet rock. The experts did that. I chose only what people will see – the paint color, appliances, cabinets and granite. Without the interior work, the exterior would be a glamorous sham covering brokenness and inadequacy. So I’m thankful for the experts. Thankful for destroyed walls, yanked out wires, replaced pipes and the incredible mess it all made, because the finished product will be better. Far better.

Holy Spirit, I never want to think I’m beyond the need for personal renovation. I don’t want to settle for a pleasing outward appearance or content myself with past successes. Make me fresh. As the expert, I invite you to shatter my walls, pull out the wiring and install new pipes. Have your way and do what it takes to make me beautiful and useful… from the inside out.  Amen.

Refining fire………. making me new. Love the post, I love?? your kitchen. 🙂 You’re so right about outward appearances. No matter how pretty, it’s what’s inside that people really see. And that God sees. And what counts.
